Matteo Gofriller Bass. Five string model - In Stock
This bass is modeled on a fine instrument by the great Italian maker Matteo Gofriller and is a very versitile orchestral bass. The swell back of English, or Italian poplar, a timber much favoured by bass makers of old, gives a great sound over the whole range while the slightly smaller upper bouts give easy access to the upper registers.
The Gofriller also makes a good jazz bass.
Measurements: Length of back 45"; upper bouts 20"; lower bouts 27½"; string stop 42".
As both I and my supplier have now used all our supply of poplar, no more Gofriller basses will be made until further notice.
I do however have a Gofriller five string bass in stock,I cannot at the moment upload photos, but I can email them to anyone interested.

This bass has been designed in collaboration with soloist and teacher David Heyes, who first commissioned the instrument. It has a body length of 109.5 cm (43") and a string stop of 104 cm (41"). The high cut away shoulders make for easy playing in the upper registers, while its good lower sound and manageable size make it a versatile general bass, especially for those who do a lot of travelling.
The bass pictured here is double bass #48, solo bass #14, it has an swell back of European poplar with vertical figure, and a table of open grain Sitka spruce. The instrument is covered in golden brown oil varnish.
